Introduction

History 

A Concentration in Accounting within the Department of Accounting and Statistics was established in 1969 and was authorized to become the Department of Accounting in 1973. The number of entering undergraduate students has doubled from 55 to 110 since 1982.The Department has started to offer the graduate programs since 2002. The MS in Accounting Program admits 20 students and Evening and Weekend MS in Accounting Program 30 annually.

Goals

The Department of Accounting is designed to provide students with broad-based knowledge of business and an in-depth specialization in accounting. It prepares students for careers in auditing, corporate accounting, taxation, management consulting, governments and not-for-profit organizations. The undergraduate accounting curriculum also provides an excellent background for the student who wants to pursue advanced graduate studies in business, finance, and, even, law. Graduates from our programs hold leadership positions in the accounting profession, academia, government and the business community.

Features

 The accounting programs are designed to 

1. provide students a solid foundation for an accounting career in today’s competitive business environment
  
2. emphasize the importance of professional ethics and communication skills by offering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  
3. offer students an interdisciplinary perspective by encouraging students to explore other disciplines in the College of Management
   
4. require seniors to carry out successful group research projects. This “learning by doing” approach is intended to inspire student’s research interest and to show them the importance of team work.
  
5. provide income-tax preparation services to the local community by offering seniors two “ Practicum in Taxation Bureau” course since 2000.
